Irrational Fears

When we first got Nico her name was Sissy. We thought that was a pretty lame name so we re-named her Nico. It didn't take long after having Nico that we discovered why her name had been Sissy. She is afraid of EVERYTHING! Its funny sometimes, but other times its just flat out annoying.

For my birthday my friends decorated my desk at work and gave me two big mylar balloons, in addition to a ridiculous amount of tiny heart confetti (thank you Amanda). We celebrated my birthday on Wednesday because Chris and I took Thursday and Friday off together. Well I didn't want to leave my balloons there so I brought them home with me.

Nico had previously had a fear of latex balloons but got over it once they no longer floated. I thought that maybe Nico would appreciate the big balloons and Zira well she doesn't really care either way. The second I walked in the door with the balloons, Nico was TERRIFIED! I opened the door and both the Dilly's came running over to greet me as they always do. It took about 3 seconds for Nico to realize what the balloons were and she went running as fast as she could, tail between legs and cowering in the corner. After teasing Nico with it for a while we ended up tying it around her neck after she was being bad to punish her. It was pretty funny and we still don't understand why she is so terrified of them.

For now we have locked the balloons in the spare bedroom so that Nico doesn't just stay sitting in the corner all day. Even though the door is closed she still won't sit by the door and walks as far away from the door as possible.

LOL That's hilarious! Jester is super afraid of all balloons. We just use it to our benefit. When we would leave for work we'd cover the couch in balloons so he wouldn't lay on it. He also has a really bad habit of scratching at the door so when I get annoyed, I tie a balloon to the door knob and he steers clear. I guess all it takes is one pop. He's terrified of any loud noise (like neighbor kids splashing in the pool or playing baseball). Dogs are funny!
